A "small quantity" of fresh turkeys they purchased from Whole Foods "did not meet our high expectations for quality," the letter from Amazon's customer service read.

The message emphasized that there were no known health or food safety risks with any of the turkeys.

But, he added, your recipient would still receive a $ 50 Amazon gift card credited to their account.

Amazon acquired Whole Foods in 2017.

"We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we are grateful to be a part of your feast," the email read.

“While these products do not present any known health risks, we know how important holiday meals are to our shoppers.

And we have proactively contacted customers who potentially purchased one of these turkeys, ”the company said.

Stores in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina and South Carolina, Tennessee, as well as two in northwest Florida were affected, Whole Foods said.

The company said not all fresh turkey products were affected.

He also didn't say exactly what went wrong.

Whole Foods also responded on Twitter to some customers, reaffirming that the turkeys were safe to eat.

It also outlined the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines for safely cooking a turkey.

The FDA website says that fresh turkeys should not be purchased more than 1 to 2 days before cooking.

The guidelines call for ovens to be set to no lower than 162 degrees Celsius, and a whole turkey is safe when cooked to a minimum internal temperature of 74 degrees Celsius.
