About 20 criminal inmates, defined as "disabled by phone calls", threatened to go on hunger strike this evening (Sunday) and about 30 inmates from various prisons declared identification with them, some even returning their dinners.
The prisoners are protesting the restrictions on the number of phone calls that the IPS allows them to make from prison.
It should be noted that the IPS prevents certain criminals and heads of criminal organizations from talking on the phone freely, as some are defined as "perpetrators of crime." However, the IPS allows these prisoners to call specific people or their lawyers.
However, according to IPS officials, the prisoners continue to outwit the prison commanders in order to win more phone calls.
This coming Tuesday, a hearing is expected in the petition of Odeh Kotayir, head of a criminal organization from the north, about the fact that the IPS does not allow him to talk to his lawyer.
Sources in the IPS said tonight that this was a provocation by several dozen prisoners in an attempt to "apply pressure" in preparation for the hearing of the petition.
