The Italian government decided on Friday, November 27 to ease from Sunday the restrictions in force to contain the Covid in Lombardy (north), Piedmont (north-west) and Calabria (south).

These three regions, so far classified as “

red zones

” (that is to say the areas most at risk), will pass into “

orange zones

” (medium risk), according to an ordinance signed by the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza.

This will allow the inhabitants of these three regions to move freely within the territory of their municipality of residence from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., and outside their municipality or region for professional or health reasons or to accompany their children to school. In the orange zone, retail businesses are authorized to open their doors, as well as shopping centers except at weekends.

However, restaurants, bars and pastry shops are not allowed to reopen their doors.

From Sunday, only the Aosta Valley (north-west), the province of Bolzano (north), Tuscany (center), Abruzzo (center) and Campania (region of Naples, south) will still be in the zone red.

In these regions, the population is only allowed to leave their homes for professional or health reasons, to accompany their children to school or to go to stores that are still open, by filling out an

ad hoc

form

.

Most of the stores are closed there, with the exception of food stores, pharmacies, opticians, bookstores, funeral directors and hairdressers.

Shopping centers, as well as bars and restaurants, are closed.

Liguria (north-west) and Sicily (south), so far classified as “

orange

”, pass into “

yellow zone

” (least-risk regions), thus joining Trentino and Veneto (north), Lazio ( region of Rome), Molise and Sardinia (south).

In these areas you can move around freely outside the curfew in effect from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Bars and restaurants are open until 6:00 p.m.

The government also announced on Friday the appointment of a new health official in Calabria, the tip of the Italian boot, where the cascading resignations of successive officials had provoked a controversy at the national level.

It is ultimately a prefect, Guido Longo, who will have the delicate task of managing the fight against the pandemic in the most deprived region of Italy, poor in infrastructure and medical staff and plagued by the mafia.
