Ugo Marchic, a French drug trafficker sentenced last week on appeal to thirty years of criminal imprisonment and who was subject to an arrest warrant, was arrested on Saturday, November 28 in Seine-et-Marne, the Evry prosecutor's office confirmed.
Ugo Marchic, 67, was arrested in the small town of Montévrain in Seine-et-Marne, the Evry prosecutor told AFP on Sunday, confirming information from the
Parisian
.
Last week, he was sentenced in his absence on appeal by the Assize Court of Essonne to thirty years imprisonment for the assassination of a French pensioner in Venezuela in 2012. He never appeared at the audience, taking advantage of an error of justice to flee.
His pre-trial detention had not been renewed within the time limit set, which had allowed his release under judicial supervision before his appeal trial.
An arrest warrant had been issued against him on November 16, the first day of the hearing.
Evry prosecutor Caroline Nisand praised the "efficiency" of the work of the National Fugitive Search Brigade, which was responsible for finding the fugitive.
Ugo Marchic, who was found guilty of the murder of Paul Wolnerman, whose decapitated and amputated body was found near Caracas in 2012, is currently imprisoned in Meaux-Chauconin prison.
In 2015, he had already been sentenced at first instance to thirty years of criminal imprisonment by the Paris Assize Court.
