The father of Iran's nuclear program, Muhsin Fahrizadeh, was killed by several gunmen who emerged after an explosion of a vehicle near his car, the country's media reported.

Authorities in the Islamic Republic gave limited details about the dramatic assassination, but hinted at an Israeli woman and warned of harsh revenge.

According to the Iranian media, the explosives were buried under a pile of trees that were on an old commercial vehicle in the town of Absurd, near Tehran, and serves as a vacation spot for the Iranian elite.

The blast led to the stopping of Fahirzadeh's Nissan car, and the Tasnim news agency reported that at least five gunmen spray-painted the vehicle.

He was taken to a hospital by helicopter, but there the doctors determined his death.

Documents from the scene showed the car pierced with gunshot and blood bullets on the road.

Senior Iranian officials have sent threatening messages following the assassination, which comes near the end of US President Donald Trump's tenure and fears of an American move in the last days of his administration.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called the assassins "terrorists" and wrote on Twitter that "this cowardice, along with serious indications of Israeli involvement, is indicative of desperation."

He added that "Iran calls on the international community and especially the European Union to put an end to these double standards and condemn this action."

Ali Khamenei's military adviser, Hussein Dahkan, used more harsh language.

"In the last days of a provocative ally - Israel is striving to increase pressure on Iran to go to a full-scale war. We will pursue the martyrs' killers and make them regret their actions," tweeted Dahkan, who will run for president next year.

The Iranian army commander, Muhammad Bakri, also joined in: "The terrorists and those behind the assassination of Fahrizadeh should know that severe revenge awaits them."

The Pentagon declined to comment on what was happening in Iran, but Trump shared tweets on the subject, including by Israeli journalist Yossi Melman.

Israel is also keeping quiet, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hinted at a video he posted on Facebook shortly after the assassination: "I did a lot of things this week, not everything can be told."

The assassination could bring the United States and Iran closer to war. The scene of the assassination

Fahrizadeh was a professor of physics in the Revolutionary Guards, and in the past even survived an assassination attempt on him.

It has not yet been reported who is responsible for the assassination, but in the last decade a series of assassinations of Iranian scientists have been attributed to the institution in an attempt to delay the nuclear program.

In addition, the New York Times reported this month that Mossad agents are responsible for the assassination of No. 2 al-Qaeda, who was shot dead in Tehran in August along with his daughter.

He is the only Iranian scientist to appear in the International Atomic Energy Agency's evaluation in 2015 that raised questions about Tehran's development intentions.

Netanyahu even mentioned Fahrizadeh as a significant factor when the Iranian nuclear archive was unveiled about two and a half years ago.

"A key part of the plan was to set up new organizations to continue working," Netanyahu said as the nuclear documents were unveiled.

"This is how Dr. Muhsin Fahirzadeh, head of the Amad project, chose to do it.

Remember that name.

"The Amad project included work on a highly sensitive explosion of a powerful explosive needed for a nuclear bomb. According to an IAEA report, Iran even conducted computer models of a nuclear explosive device before 2005 and between 2005 and 2009, but the calculations Were "incomplete and defective."

Iran suffered a severe blow with its elimination.

Fahrizadeh

Michael Mulroy, a senior Pentagon official and Middle East expert, said Fahrizadeh's death was a "retreat to the Iranian nuclear program."

According to Mulroy, "he was the most senior nuclear scientist and was believed to be responsible for Iran's covert nuclear program."

He even estimated that the fact that a senior officer served in the Revolutionary Guards "would increase Iran's willingness to respond by force."

Israel has been linked to a series of assassinations of nuclear scientists in Iran in the past decade, and in a few days will mark the tenth anniversary of the assassination of Majid Shahariari.

He and others were killed while Iranian centrifuges were attacked by the Stuxnet virus, which was developed by Israel and the United States to stop the Iranian nuclear program.

Capture to Biden

Israeli officials told Walla! NEWS that the political echelon has in recent weeks instructed the IDF to prepare for a scenario of US action against Iran before Trump leaves. However, officials stressed that the directive was not brought because of information or spot assessment, but more because of the sensitive period remaining in Washington. 20 January.

the assassination occurred less than a year since the assassination of Gen. Qasem Soleimani in Baghdad that brought together the United States and Iran war. the increasing tension in the Middle East is expected to hamper the efforts of Biden nuclear agreement, signed when he was a deputy of Barack Obama.

Iran has violated its commitments, including the Conditions of enriched uranium that she may possess, since Trump put the sanctions on it as part of the "maximum pressure." outgoing administration who formulate new agreement, which will include missile program of Tehran and its operations in the Middle East, but the Iranian regime rejects it outright.

some senior Iranian officials have signaled That Iran would be willing to reopen negotiations with the incoming Democratic government, but the supreme leader disapproves of it

. Experts believe that Iran has enough low-level enriched uranium to produce two nuclear bombs if it so chooses.
