In an interview with the radio station this morning (28th), the Chief Executive, Carrie Lam, believed that the reform of the Liberal Studies course was not political over professionalism, and believed that it was professional guidance from beginning to end. She also believed that the problems in Hong Kong society were not simply due to individual Subject causes.
Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said when attending the Hong Kong and Taiwan program "Saturday Accountability" that Liberal Studies has been implemented for 10 years. The foundation is to enable students to distinguish right from wrong and have a foundation of expanded knowledge, including understanding the historical background, that Hong Kong is inseparable from China. In part, the Basic Law is derived from the Constitution and One Country, Two Systems.
Chief Executive Carrie Lam mentioned in the policy address to reform the Liberal Studies subject.
Regarding whether the learning goal of "critical thinking" will be retained after the reform of general knowledge, she bluntly does not remember that general knowledge is to cultivate "critical thinking", thinking that this is a situation of general knowledge alienation, and turning general knowledge into anything must be opposed , From expanding the knowledge base to a venue for debating current affairs, students are vulnerable to "instructive opinions".
She also emphasized that the reform of general education does not mean that the country cannot tolerate negative criticism.
She said that not everything is critical for opposition, and it is not critical enough to accept the government and the Basic Law.
Regarding external voices that the government regards general education subjects as political scapegoats and victims, she bluntly disagrees with the statement, pointing out that in addition to the establishment groups, there are also other educational organizations that feel that general education subjects need to be adjusted and cannot be dualistic. Translated into an expression of political standpoint, it is by no means that politics overrule professionalism. It is professionally guided from beginning to end.
