The new Corona regulations are not being well received by the food industry.
In future, far fewer customers will be able to shop at the same time than before.
Experts fear snakes.
The
corona restrictions
on retail are causing concern for many companies.
A branch manager from Munich * fears
bad things
for the
time before the Christmas holidays
.
He fears that there will be long lines and that
hamster purchases will increase
again.
Munich
-
Robin Hertscheck
is stunned.
“This decision is utter
nonsense,
” he says.
The 33-year-old runs the
Edeka branch
in Neubiberg (Munich district).
He can
not understand
the stricter
corona regulations for retail
.
The federal and state governments decided on Wednesday evening that a shop with more than 800 square meters of sales area would only be allowed to let in one customer per 20 square meters - instead of the previous ten square meters.
Hertscheck has a sales area of 1100 square meters, in future a maximum of 95 customers will be allowed to shop at the same time.
The
branch manager is
particularly
prepared for the
Christmas season
Headache.
“How are we supposed to do that? He asks.
“We will be
overrun
!” The fact is: This year
Christmas Eve
falls
on a Thursday - means: the shops are closed for four days!
Hertscheck also fears that the new regulations could lead to long
queues in
front of his shop.
"Then the customers are standing outside in the cold, so the risk of infection * is certainly much higher," says Hertscheck.
The
hamster purchases
could also increase - according to the 33-year-old, not only from customers.
“Markets themselves will also hoard in order to meet the high demand,” he says.
“Whoever orders first, paints first.” For him it is already clear: He will open longer on Christmas Eve - regardless of whether he gets in trouble for it.
"There is no other way to do it."
That Hertscheck does some things differently than other supermarket managers is not only known in
Neubiberg
.
For example, he spent part of the
Corona year
in Kenya to build a new village there with donations he had collected.
And in Germany too, Hertschek seems to be particularly keen to take care of its customers.
Munich: Criticism of new corona measures - Association warns of psychological effects
Bernd Ohlmann, spokesman for the Bavarian Trade Association, also criticizes the tightened measures *.
"I can only shake my head at that." After all, not a single
retail store
in Bavaria has become a
Corona hotspot *
.
“The
hygiene concepts
are good and work,” says Ohlmann.
He also fears that there will not only be long lines in front of the shops, but also the
notorious hamster purchases
.
“Snake formation can quickly trigger a feeling of imminent danger,” Ohlmann explains the psychological effect.
And then quickly more packages of
toilet paper
and pasta end up in the shopping cart than intended.

However, the
logistics
chains have been optimized since the first lockdown in March, according to Ohlmann.
"There wo
n't be any
delivery bottlenecks
at
Christmas
either
," he emphasizes and adds: "If everyone only buys as much as they really need, there is enough for everyone."
Munich: Corona hamster purchases before Christmas?
Branch manager sounds the alarm
In order
to even out
the big
rush to the supermarkets
shortly before the
Christmas holidays
, many industry experts advise stocking up on non-perishable food in advance.
“It urgently needs to be bought with foresight this year,” emphasizes Bernd Ohlmann from the Bavarian Trade Association.
This is how Robin Hertscheck sees it: "It is best to buy drinks such as beer, wine and sparkling wine early."
But even if many customers are making provisions: Robin Hertscheck is worried about December.
An
electronic counter
in his Edeka ensures
that the
number of customers
now permitted is
not exceeded
.
However, Hertscheck and his team have to deal with the unpleasant atmosphere in front of the store themselves.
“And there will
certainly be trouble
with long
waiting times
,” the 33-year-old is certain.
For him, it is already clear: he will
open longer
on
Christmas Eve
, maybe even on weekdays.
Even if he
risks
trouble
doing so
.
Because Robin Hertscheck is certain: “There is no other way to do it.”
