Russia has strongly condemned the violation by the US destroyer John McCain of its territorial waters in Peter's Bay.
Sputnik news agency quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement today that "this act constitutes an open provocation aimed at violating peace in the country," stressing that Russia reserves the right to respond.
The statement stressed that any attempts to question Russia's sovereignty over its internal waters are "unacceptable", indicating that the Russian position in the field of water is known to Washington.
And the Russian Defense Ministry announced last Wednesday that the anti-submarine ship Admiral Vinogradov prevented the American destroyer John McCain from violating Russia's borders and forced it to change its course.
