The Ministry of Defense and the Assignment of the Iranian Armed Forces announced the assassination of the nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, following an attack on him today near the Iranian capital, Tehran.
"Armed terrorist elements attacked today a car carrying Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, head of the Research and Innovation Organization at the Ministry of Defense, and during the clash between his security team and the terrorists, the nuclear scientist was seriously injured when he was taken to the hospital," the ministry said in a statement today, adding that "unfortunately, the medical team did not succeed in rescuing him."
Fars news agency reported earlier today that Fakhryzadeh was assassinated in an explosion and shooting attack in Absard in Damavand district near Tehran, adding that efforts are underway to try to rescue him and the other wounded with him.
Fakhrizadeh is considered one of the most prominent and highly ranked nuclear scientists in the field of scientific research for the missile industry.
