This Monday afternoon, Kévin Escoffier triggered his distress beacon on board PRB.
The 40-year-old skipper from Saint-Malo, who is taking part in his first Vendée Globe, was in the South Atlantic, south-west of the Cape of Good Hope.
Located 25 miles in front of him, Jean Le Cam made a U-turn to go and rescue him, indicated the race director.
At 2:46 p.m. (French time), Kévin Escoffier was able to send a message to his shore team, explaining that he had water in the boat.
Rescue services (CROSS de Gris-Nez, MRCC Cape Town) are set up in conjunction with the PRB shore team, Jacques Caraës and the Vendée Globe race management team.
