  • Hamas naval commando fighters

A rocket was launched last night (Sunday) from the Gaza Strip, west towards the sea.

If you were wondering why this incident did not resonate, it is no coincidence that Hamas' military wing, Izz a-Din al-Qassam, is quietly continuing to develop its military might.

This time the rocket was not launched due to lightning or thunder in the al-Bureij district - these are initiated launches as part of experiments carried out by the military force that Hamas is carrying out, and not for the first time.

In recent years, hundreds of rockets have been launched from Gaza toward the sea - in this context, Hamas is strengthening its capability, both in terms of range and accuracy, so it can be assumed.

It should be remembered that the last time proactive firing was carried out on Israeli territory, the organization reached the outskirts of Haifa.

Hamas is preparing for war.

Whispers about a possible series, continues to dig tunnels into our territory, and plots the next stage in the confrontation with Israel.

It is important that this situation be known to all of us, and especially to the Southern Command, which is required to be prepared for war, no less, at any given moment.

The question we must ask is why does Israel allow this terrorist organization to continue to intensify?

Why do we continue to live quietly with such intensification, in the guise that the main threat is in the north, and therefore we should not go out of our way on any rebellious rocket from the south.

The test of military capability is not a test of intent, but a test of competence, capability, and willingness to create a significant threat to us from the south - perhaps a kind of deterrent similar to what Hezbollah has created for us in the north.

From time to time this question must arise, how do we agree to such a situation?

After all, the Gaza Strip is a limited area in the southwest, which already affects almost the entire length and breadth of Israel.

What deters Israel from an initiated military operation whose purpose is at least to bring back Hamas' capabilities years back?

In truth, there is no clear answer to the reason why we agree to allow the recalcitrant organization to continue to develop a killing capability that is entirely aimed at civilians, our citizens.

If in the north there is a balance of terror whose atrocities are in the hands of the ayatollahs and in one form or another Israel as part of a pro-Western coalition manages to curb, in the south there is no such reason.

An organization imprisoned between Egypt, Sinai and us - is doomed to weaken and disintegrate, certainly not to develop or intensify.

And yet the ground, subterranean and rocket capabilities are evolving, and a reaction or counter-move is not seen.

The onset of winter may herald an apparent calm in the near future, but no doubt - both Hamas' intentions and actions require a response, and it is better to be proactive rather than tug of war - or in other words, we prefer "Cast Lead" Forte, over "Strong Cliff" Excavations.

In the same operation, then at the beginning of 2009 a particularly powerful air blow was inflicted on Hamas with the opening, followed by a rapid maneuver that divided the Gaza Strip, and decentralized moves were possible along its entire length.

"I did not have the political power required to continue the move," then-Prime Minister Ehud Olmert recently claimed, following the question of why the IDF did not go all the way, even though then-Southern Command General Education Minister Yoav Galant commanded the operation resolutely.

Israel can defeat Hamas, and certainly weaken it dramatically.

Today there is no political difficulty in doing so, on the contrary, it was none other than the Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Bnei Gantz, who before the last election sharply criticized the hesitant conduct of the right-wing government led by Netanyahu vis-à-vis Gaza.

"We will make a campaign that will be the last campaign that will militarily defeat Hamas," they claimed at the time, before the elections last year.

Still, we continue to fortify, build obstacles, fence ourselves in to know, all just to avoid a powerful military move required against an organization whose whole purpose is to threaten and harm our residents - as rockets increase range each month, and obviously as time goes on they keep getting stronger and we keep burying our heads. abroad.
