The Supreme Council for Regional Planning, during its meeting today headed by Prime Minister Hussein Arnous, reviewed the completed stages of the executive program for the basic orientations and principles document of the National Framework for Regional Planning.

The meeting emphasized the completion of this framework at the end of the sixth month of next year, according to the specific program, which focuses on the most important determinants of national development, its centers and axes, areas of major urban agglomerations, environmental and tourism protection, areas for protecting cultural heritage and hubs of mineral wealth.

The meeting clarified the importance of the National Housing and Housing Map, as it contributes to identifying the actual needs needed to restore recovery and advance the housing sector and direct urban growth away from agricultural lands.

Eng. Arnous stressed the necessity of completing regional studies according to the time programs set, especially the draft of the national framework for regional planning to secure the sustainability of resources and opportunities that would enhance national development .. and coordination and cooperation between all concerned parties to complete the project and establish specialized working groups at the provincial level as well as preparing a future vision that accommodates expansion Geographical and sectoral industrial zones to meet the requirements of the industrial activity, which, along with the agricultural sector, is a priority for government action to enhance the national economy and food security.

In this context, it was emphasized that the concerned ministries should coordinate with the Regional Planning Commission to complete the industrial activity map, select sites suitable for this activity, evaluate the reality of the existing industrial cities, and complete the work on the implementation of the investment map.

The Council reviewed the stages of completing the coastal regional planning project, which aims to protect forests and environmental and natural areas, achieve modern agricultural development and competitive food industries, and develop tourism work based on the elements of tourist attractions and human resources.

In a statement after the meeting, the Minister of Public Works and Housing, Eng. Suhail Abd al-Latif, explained that the basic issues that the Regional Planning Commission are undertaking and the timetable for reaching the national framework for regional planning have been discussed, and all the programs that have been presented are detailed programs that fall within this framework.

He pointed out that one of the most important outcomes of the meeting is that the decisions of the commission studied by it and by experts in universities, the Higher Institute for Regional Planning and the Ministry of Public Works and Housing are binding on all parties, and that no development project in any region be undertaken without the approval of the Commission.

For her part, Dr. Rima Haddad, head of the Regional Planning Authority, said that the meeting focused on the progress of completion of work in five projects supervised by the Commission, three of which have been fully completed, noting that the Commission is in the process of holding workshops to approve these projects while work is still ongoing on the other two projects.
