The municipality of Uffing also wants to take unpopular measures in terms of visitor management.

Cycling on the Obersee should be prohibited in the future.

  • After the rush of day trippers, the municipality of Uffing wants to better guide visitors in the future.

  • Far-reaching: In the future, cycling will be banned on the Obersee.

  • For stand-up paddlers they want to create an entry road.

Uffing

- Of the three Staffelsee communities, Uffing has always been the one that has given the least support to tourism.

After a year that first brought a virus and then brought more day-trippers to the community than ever before, Uffing is now deciding: the way it is, it's good.

"You don't want Uffing to become a tourism stronghold," emphasizes Mayor Andreas Weiß (non-party).

By that he actually means the local representatives from gastronomy, retail, landlords and suppliers.

The Green Solutions office from Murnau interviewed them all on behalf of the community.

Their unanimous answer: "It shouldn't get more commercial."

Concept is publicly available

The Uffinger drew the guidelines, Doris Miller from Green-Solutions developed the concept that will guide (day) tourists in the future.

The following are the key points that are publicly available until December 21, according to the municipal council resolution.

In January, the concept is then to be lashed in order to use 2021 as a test year.

The new network of paths

The Uffingen municipal area, a book of pictures created by nature, is home to countless paths, paths and routes.

No compendium covers them all.

Navigation systems, hiking maps, cycling atlas - each medium shows different routes.

The church is now striving for uniformity.

She creates something like an official network of paths that should make it onto the maps and onto the Internet.

In the future, the municipality will only equip these routes with the yellow signs that hikers know from mountain tours.

All the old clues are gone.

You want to include walking routes and direct connections in the plan.

A number of locally known paths will no longer be indicated in the future.

With this, the community would like to guide excursionists on the paths they want in the future, so to speak, and reserve the others for the locals - as good as possible.

“They are not forbidden, but they are also not actively signposted,” explains the mayor.

At the same time, the municipality takes on the security of all the signposted routes.

Cycling ban on the lake shore

Andreas Weiß speaks of an “indispensable thirst” for wanting to cycle on the lake shore.

Of course, he also identified the phenomenon among the Uffingers, and he already suspects that “we will be punished by the population” for the new measures.

There is now a strict cycling ban on the Birkenweg, the small avenue between the beer garden and the community pool, as well as on the entire hiking loop on the Obersee (around three kilometers).

At the beginning and the end, barriers and leaning stations should be created.

If you still want to take your bike with you, for example to transport luggage, you have to push it.

“Doesn't come from us,” explains Weiß.

But nature conservation intervened heavily.

In the summer, the mayor also observed how relentlessly some bikers deal with the green strips along the way.

Nevertheless, he emphasizes: "I still believe in the good in cyclists."

The SUP problem

They were still welcome in the Uffingen municipal pool, but now the tenants are also sending an emergency call there.

“We can no longer need the stand-up paddlers” - this sentence reached the town hall.

But you don't want to drive out the SUPers.

Instead, the community is creating an access road on the left to the bathing area.

There should also be stands and air pumps for the boards, which guests can use for an extra charge.

The subject of parking lots

A very good catalyst for the masses that attacked Uffing were the alternative areas at the municipal pool.

One and a half months earlier than usual, the municipalities requested these meadows at the municipal swimming pool to accommodate the cars.

“The farmers weren't finished with the harvest,” explains the mayor.

In the future, two more mobile parking spaces could be added on weekends and public holidays: at the train station and at the Edeka market, in the longer term also equipped with charging stations for e-bikes, air pumps and tools.

"I can imagine that this will straighten out the traffic from Munich," says Wolfgang Mayr (WGU), who also runs the Edeka store.

In addition, the municipality places electronic boards at the entrances to the town that indicate free spaces and show the speed during the week.

Garbage can

About 15 years ago, when the community was handing out garbage bags for dog poop, they also added extra bins.

But they are no longer sufficient for the current capacities.

Local councilor Jakob Warnstorff (We for Uffing) suggested installing more.

The mayor promised: "We have to make improvements."
