The Garmisch-Partenkirchen district recorded 52 new corona infections.

Particularly worrying: 23 residents of a retirement home are affected.

The good news: Almost no one shows symptoms.

district

- One could speak of a devastating number: 52 new infections over the weekend in the district.

At a time when public life has been reduced and contacts are limited.

In other words: at a time when the number of infections is falling, it shouldn't suddenly increase significantly.

Nevertheless, the district office is reasonably relaxed after the new development on Sunday evening (we reported).

Because there is no point in complaining, even if the burden on the employees in the health department increases massively.

“It can always happen,” says spokesman Stephan Scharf.

In addition, you have to take a closer look at the numbers.

23 cases go back to the BRK senior citizens' home in Murnau Garhöll.

If you remove them, 29 newly infected remain, of which 18 are spread across three asylum seekers' accommodations.

"Then the situation looks at least a little different."

In addition, those affected can be assigned to a cluster, unlike in the case of a diffuse infection process - the greatest concern of a health authority.

In any case, the ways of who infected whom and could have infected can never be 100 percent clarified.

A local outbreak in a facility eases the situation a little.

But: “It's bad enough.” It doesn't mean to be sharp.

The spokesman for the authorities looks at Murnau with concern.

Because an outbreak in a retirement home affects the people “who are most at risk”.

BRK retirement home in Murnau: 23 infected residents, 22 of them without symptoms

Scharf reluctantly remembers April.

The virus broke out in a retirement home in Kemmelpark in Murnau.

Twelve residents died as a result.

Now another senior citizens' home in Murnau has been hit, the SeniorenWohnen Staffelsee.

The authority immediately inquired about the health of the 23 infected residents.

Breathe easy: everyone is fine.

Elisabeth Mark, spokeswoman for the social service company that operates the BRK house, specifies: Only one person shows symptoms, she is in the hospital - but not because of Covid-19.

She was brought in earlier.

The person is in the palliative process, says Mark.

So she is dying.

Mark does not give any information on gender or age, only says: The person affected is very old, is above the already high average age of the residents of 87 years.

The other people who tested positive apparently all live in a living area, which was isolated.

Supervisors only enter it in protective clothing, bring food, and also take care of “social and emotional well-being”, says Mark.

"We try to make all of this as compatible as possible for you."

Visiting the house is now prohibited.

The living areas were previously taboo, now family members are no longer allowed to meet their parents or grandparents indoors, only pick them up to go for a walk - as long as they adhere to all the rules, register, fill out contact sheets, have a fever measured.

One is in close coordination with the health department, emphasizes Mark.

The staff also supports the authority in establishing contacts.

BRK retirement home: How the corona outbreak came about is unclear

The infected were found through a series of tests on Friday, which the office ordered after isolated cases in the home at the beginning of November.

All 130 residents and over 70 employees took a smear test.

Only the results of the seniors are available yet.

What led to the outbreak is unclear.

“We don't know how the virus got into the house,” says Mark.

Sharp warns against premature allegations.

“They are out of place.” Check the situation.

But even with the best hygiene concepts, there is still a risk.

The social service company operates a total of 26 retirement homes in Bavaria with over 4600 residents for the BRK.

According to the company, there has only been one major outbreak like the one in Murnau so far: in May in a house in Neu-Ulm.

Three accommodations closed to asylum seekers

In an asylum seeker accommodation, all residents of an infected person are quickly classified as Category 1 contact persons. So: Isolation for everyone.

This shows the current situation once again.

Three accommodations in the district are closed: Urihof in Bad Kohlgrub (3 infected with 69 residents by Monday evening), Oberau (10 infected with 73 residents) and in Garmisch-Partenkirchen the house on Münchner Straße (5 infected with 45 residents).

Originally there was also talk of a case in the Abrams complex.

However, this turned out to be a hoax.

Again and again, corona outbreaks in asylum seekers' accommodations pose challenges for those responsible. In Oberau, the situation is a little more difficult, says Scharf. Not everyone is understanding. The authorities considered building another fence around the area around the area, which was controversial among the public, as had already been done in Bad Kohlgrub and Oberau in the past. But based on experience, the decision was made against it. They rely on discussions and education. "We hope that everyone adheres to the quarantine," says Scharf. As well as the hygiene concepts and the mandatory face mask that apply in the houses.
