Elected President Joe Biden continues his cabinet work, and last night he presented the emerging economic hive to the new administration, headed by his candidate for finance minister, Jewish economist Janet Yellen.
If the appointment of Yellen, the economist who previously served as chairman of the Federal Reserve, is approved, she will become the first woman to head the US Treasury Department, and will take office at a founding moment - with an economy on the brink of deep crisis and a severely damaged economy.
"We are facing great challenges as a country right now," Yellen wrote on Twitter after the official announcement of her candidacy.
"To recover we need to rebuild the American Dream - a society where everyone can reach their full potential and dream big for their children."
Biden also introduced Adwal (Wally) Adiamo as deputy finance minister, an appointment that if approved would make him the first African-American to hold office.
Cecilia Reuss is the candidate to head the Council of Economic Advisers, and Jared Bernstein and Heather Bushay will be appointed advisers in the same body.
"The team is made up of respected, experienced and groundbreaking public servants who will assist communities most severely affected by the corona and address the inequality inherent in our economy," Biden said in a statement on the appointment line.
Communication team: Women only
The economic hive was unveiled a day after the president-elect and his running mate Kamala Harris announced their media staff - made up entirely of women.
Jen Saki, who served as communications director at the White House under former President Obama and State Department spokeswoman under former Secretary of State John Kerry, has a picture for the White House spokeswoman.
Kate Beddingfield, who was the deputy director of the Democratic campaign, will serve as communications director.
"I'm proud to introduce the senior media team, which is made up entirely of women," Biden said.
"These experienced professionals bring diverse perspectives to work and share a shared commitment to rebuilding our country and better."
Meanwhile, last night the president-elect received his first official presidential briefing, along with his deputy Harris.
This is a classified briefing on a series of national security issues, which is formulated daily by the head of national intelligence, and until yesterday the elected president has not yet won it.
Biden and Harris also announced yesterday their swearing-in committee.
Republican Sen. Roy Blunt, who is in charge of events on behalf of Congress, has expressed hope that the outgoing president will choose to attend the inauguration.
"Trump has a big role to play there," Blunt said in an interview with CNN.
"I hope he adopts that."
In addition, Biden was diagnosed with small fractures in his leg, after twisting his ankle in a game with his dog.
Initial photographs showed no signs of fracture, but a CT scan found several minor fractures, forcing Biden to walk around with a "boot" that would protect his leg in the coming weeks.
