Naamat's chairman, Hagit Peer, today (Tuesday) called on Justice Minister Avi Nissenkorn not to appoint Adv. Amit Isman to the position of state attorney, due to allegations made against him about his behavior toward women.

On behalf of Isman, whom the search committee has decided to recommend to the government for his appointment, statements have been made that seemingly reveal a sexist, belittling and degrading treatment of women.

According to the same publications, the Civil Service Commission even found that he had spoken to the Haifa District Attorney's Office in statements that allegedly amounted to misconduct by a civil servant.

In a letter sent by Peer to Nissenkorn, she wrote that "needless to say, the publications in the case allegedly raised allegations that the complaints had not been thoroughly investigated, which is at all serious and doubly serious when it comes to law enforcement officials."

She added that against the background of the increase in the rate of violent offenses and sexual offenses against women in the shadow of the Corona crisis, "it is of paramount importance to appoint such an important and sensitive person who brings with him an organizational culture that respects women, not one that belittles and humiliates them."

Peer demands that the Minister of Justice freeze the process of appointing Isman, who currently serves as Haifa District Attorney, until a comprehensive clarification on the matter: "I appeal to you not to appoint Adv. Isman to the position of State Attorney, before a comprehensive examination is conducted regarding his conduct and statements regarding women."

Tamar Schwartz, CEO of the Women's Spirit Association, said it was a wrong choice: "His statements regarding women in the past are serious enough to prevent the appointment, even if he apologized or if it was an excellent lawyer.

The appointment of a State Attorney has a value and public significance, and the black cloud hovering over his head had to be taken into account out of all the considerations.

"Only a few days ago, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women was marked, and as if nothing, despite the verbal violence he expressed, Isman is given a high-ranking position."
