The company "Marvel Fusion" would like to buy a piece of land in the Nonnenwald from the city of Penzberg in order to develop a commercial fusion power plant there.
What was previously unknown: The company also knocked in Seehausen am Staffelsee, but without success.
Seehausen / Penzberg - In Penzberg, a possible Marvel merger settlement is currently being discussed intensively.
The GmbH, based in the state capital Munich, apparently equipped with ample risk capital, has envisaged an urban plot of land in the Nonnenwald industrial and commercial park right next to the Roche plant in order to develop a commercial fusion power plant there that is CO2-free and therefore climate-neutral To generate energy - first in a research facility and then in a prototype of a power plant
The project was presented to the public for the first time at the November meeting of the Penzberg city council.
What was not mentioned at the time: The company “Marvel Fusion” knocked on the door in the neighboring district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen last summer to buy a plot of land, more precisely in the municipality of Seehausen am Staffelsee.
Sale of land: Penzberg city council has not yet made a decision
In contrast to Penzberg, where the city council has not yet decided on a property sale to the company, in Seehausen the decision has already been made in a closed session - against "Marvel Fusion".
The company apparently had an area in the planned Seehausen industrial park Längenwiesen, which is to be built on the eastern edge between Baywa-Baumarkt and Lautner-Hof, as a potential location.
In Seehausen, a majority voted against the sale
The mayor of Seehausen, Markus Hörmann (CSU), said when asked that the local council was not really able to get used to the revolutionary concept.
According to him, the local council spoke out against it behind closed doors in the summer.
This is only to be announced in today's municipal council meeting.
When asked, the town hall chief held back with details of the vote.
Only this much: “The majority was against it.” City hall boss Hörmann himself was, according to his own statements, in favor of a property sale to “Marvel Fusion”.
He would have liked to take this opportunity for Seehausen.
But he had to accept the committee's no.
His résumé: "I find that regrettable." Anyone who wants to advance the energy transition, argues the geologist, must be open to new technologies.
In addition, one would have had the opportunity to create highly qualified jobs for the younger district residents.
Marvel Fusion: Consider several areas in Upper Bavaria
On the other hand, local council members such as Robert Roithmeier from the List Citizens / ÖDP / Greens parliamentary group have different views.
Although he was not part of the vote, he has nothing to do with the Marvel merger plans.
According to the engineer and mathematician, there is basically nothing wrong with the idea of building a fusion power plant.
Only this belongs in a research center, for example in Garching.
In his opinion, another problem would have worsened in Seehausen in the event of a settlement: "The housing market would have come under even more pressure."
“Marvel Fusion” is flexible: as part of a location analysis, several areas in Upper Bavaria are being considered, says spokeswoman Britta Weddeling.
“The special requirements placed on the property include, for example, the size or the nature of the soil.” The laser technology requires a subsurface that is as low-vibration as possible.
