Atlas, who was appointed to the position despite having no experience fighting infectious diseases, has been accused of spreading false information about the coronavirus and downplaying the seriousness of the outbreak.

Dr. Scott Atlas, the controversial White House adviser appointed to deal with the coronavirus, will leave his post as of Tuesday, December 1, an official from the Donald Trump Administration confirmed tonight.

Conservative Fox News, the first outlet to report the resignation, obtained Atlas's resignation letter.

The doctor, who has no experience in infectious diseases,

has been disconnected from most of the rest of the coronavirus task force for months.
