Prosecutors investigating Diego Maradona's death say the former soccer player's lack of adequate medical supervision following the operation for a subdural hematoma on November 3 was "absolutely negligent," a judicial investigator involved in the case told the country's official news agency, Télam, on Monday.

The investigator told Télam that “what we have seen is that the [medical] behavior was absolutely negligent.

It was totally poor home care. '

The investigator also said they are working to determine if there may have been "medical malpractice, negligence or inexperience that could constitute manslaughter."

"If it is proven through the findings of the medical report, expert opinions and witness statements that there was some kind of malpractice, [Leopoldo] Luque will be summoned for questioning," said the investigator, according to Télam.

Earlier this month, Dr. Leopoldo Luque performed successful surgery on Maradona for a subdural hematoma, more commonly known as a blood clot in the brain.

Maradona had been recovering at home since the surgery.

“I am a neurosurgeon.

I took responsibility for my surgery, with a great team.

I took care of Diego as much as I could… He was not the supervisor of the so-called home [medical] care.

How are you going to force home hospitalization on a boy who doesn't even want a home health aide? ”Luque said Sunday.

The performance of the psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov "is also being examined, despite the fact that on the day of Maradona's death he was taken as a witness for having been present at the house" where Maradona died, Télam said, citing an investigator.

In the early hours of Monday, and without prior request from the authorities, Luque - who has not been formally accused in the investigation - appeared before the Prosecutor's Office of the province of Buenos Aires to testify.

However, his statement was not taken because the authorities are still working on the investigation file.

Maradona died on Wednesday at the age of 60 in a house in the town of Tigre, Argentina, due to complications of heart failure, a source from the Argentine Ministry of Justice present at the time of the autopsy told CNNE.

The cause of death was "acute secondary pulmonary edema due to exacerbated chronic heart failure," the source said.

Maradona struggled with substance abuse and addiction during his brilliant soccer career.
