Romain Grosjean (Haas) announced Tuesday on social networks that he "should leave the hospital normally tomorrow" (Wednesday), three days after his spectacular accident Sunday at the Bahrain Grand Prix, despite still pain in his hands.
“I'm getting better and better.
Of course, there are still a few painful spots but it's okay.
Let's say that after what has happened, the pain is not too much.
I'm happy to be alive and talking to you, ”the 34-year-old French Formula 1 driver said on his Instagram account in English.
Shortly after the start, Grosjean's F1 car went off the track following contact with one of the wheels of Russian Daniil Kvyat (AlphaTauri) and broke up by hitting the safety barriers, turning into a blaze.
The driver was stuck for 28 seconds in the midst of the flames before exiting the carcass on his own and being immediately taken care of by the track marshals and the driver of the Grand Prix medical car, before being admitted to the hospital.
Next weekend at the Sakhir Grand Prix, on the same circuit, he will be replaced by the test and reserve driver of the American Haas team, the Brazilian Pietro Fittipaldi, grandson of the double F1 world champion Emerson Fittipaldi.
Romain Grosjean hopes to return for the last Grand Prix of the 2020 season in Abu Dhabi on December 13, which could also be his last GP in Formula 1 as the Frenchman does not have a steering wheel for next season.
