Mercedes has made his decision and it will be George Russell who will replace Lewis Hamilton for the Sakhir Grand Prix.
After the package of the seven-time world champion because of a positive Covid-19 test, Mercedes only had a few hours to organize for the coming weekend.
Stoffel Vandoorne, reserve driver of the German brand, seemed to hold the rope but it was finally George Russell, the young Mercedes protégé, placed at Williams since last year, who will be at the wheel of the Hamilton car for the 2nd race organized in Bahrain.
At Williams, a Mercedes-powered team, Russell will be replaced for the Sakhir GP by Jack Aitken, who will make his F1 debut.
“No one can replace this man (Hamilton) but I will give my all for the team in his absence and from the moment I am in the car,” Russell tweeted Wednesday morning.
Nobody can replace this guy, but I'll give my all for the team in his absence from the moment I step in the car.
