The Canadian telecommunications software group had already entered into a partnership with Amazon, the world leader in the cloud (remote computing), in early 2020. The new contract should enable it to develop, over several years, a platform called IVY which will allow automakers to “

create responsive, integrated in-vehicle services that enhance the driver and passenger experience

”.

For example, IVY could use data from the car to identify driver behavior and dangerous conditions such as ice or traffic jams and recommend that the driver activate safety options such as grip control, assistance to keep the car in its lane or the cruise control,

The omniscient platform could even warn parents if their teenager is texting while driving or breaking speed limits.

BlackBerry has converted in recent years to business services - computer security and data centralization.

The two groups will pool BlackBerry's experience in collecting automotive data and AWS (Amazon's cloud branch) skills in artificial intelligence: connected objects and machine learning.

In particular, the platform will have to respond to the challenge of complex modern vehicles, built using materials and software from different suppliers.

"

BlackBerry IVY will be able to operate multiple operating systems of vehicles and types of cloud in order to be compatible whatever the model and the brand

", assures Amazon.
