The warnings are unambiguous.
"Russia is modernizing its nuclear arsenal and deploying new missiles."
Or:
"It is deploying more forces in our neighborhood, from the Far North to Syria or Libya."
Before the meeting of NATO foreign ministers, its secretary general, Jens Stoltenberg, recalled the purpose of the Alliance.
For her part, after having qualified Russia as a
“malicious”
power
, the American ambassador to NATO, Kay Hutchinson, was very clear:
“We will make sure that our deterrence and our defense correspond to what we are doing. we need to ensure that (Russia's influence) does not infringe on any of our allies or any of our partners ”
, she warned.
While reflections continue on the future of the Alliance, its designated adversary remains the same, as in the days of the USSR.
