Art, salon and roof terrace: the concept for the new city museum was well received by the culture committee.

Unterschleißheim -

The renovation of the city museum of Unterschleißheim is proceeding rapidly.

Walls have been torn out, door frames removed and a dark gray linoleum floor has been laid.

The construction work on the upper floor of the community center is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

The city plans to open the museum on June 29 at the “Unterschleißheim Cultural Summer 2021”.

Museum director Stephan Bachter plans a modern concept for the operation with digital communication via tablets and audio guides, which met with broad approval in the culture committee.

The city's history is to be experienced in a dark red room via screens and a few selected exhibits.

The Graf painting collection is presented in a second room in front of dark blue walls.

It should be open three days: Thursdays 3pm to 8pm;

Saturdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sundays and public holidays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cooperation with VHS and history associations

Bachter is faced with the challenge of always offering appealing exhibitions without being able to build on an outstanding history or significant building structure in Unterschleißheim.

In future, the City Museum will therefore network with the “Landpartie” group, in which museums around Munich have come together.

Bachter cooperates with exhibition organizers in Ismaning, Dachau and Oberschleißheim.

He also wants to work with the adult education center and history associations.

The new museum focuses on the Graf collection with 32 works of art.

"A gift from gods" is what the head of the cultural office, Daniela Benker, calls the oil paintings, watercolors and copperplate engravings that the city's patron gave to the city.

This is also the focus when working with schools and kindergartens.

"It is important to train the view of the city and its surroundings," emphasizes Bachter.

But the children will continue to learn a lot about former life on a farm.

There will be special exhibitions on supraregional topics that have been scientifically researched and will be shown for eight months from April to January.

The central meeting point for an audience interested in culture will be the room that opens up to the roof terrace via two entrances.

As a tribute to Manfred Graf, who comes from the largest farm in Unterschleißheim, the Schattenhof, the room is called the “Schattenhofer Salon”, as is the series of events that could take place there on Sundays.

Concerts, lectures or readings should be held here once a month.

Bachter is currently selecting exhibits that represent the city's history and writing the explanatory texts.

He will present his conceptual content to the culture committee on February 25th.
