The United States Justice investigates an alleged plot that aimed to influence the White House to obtain pardons
from President Donald Trump in exchange for generous political donations,
The Washington Post reported
.
Court documents released Tuesday indicate that prosecutors have investigated the activities of people who contacted Trump officials with the goal of obtaining a pardon.
The documents, which date from last August, are censored and do not identify any of the people involved in the alleged plot, nor do they provide information on the status of the investigation, reports Efe.
The attorney general of the United States, William Barr, has assured in an interview with AP on Tuesday that the Department of Justice has not discovered any evidence of fraud in the elections of November 3.
"To date, we have not seen fraud on a scale that could have changed the outcome of the elections," Attorney Barr has said.
Reactions from Trump's team did not take long.
In a statement Rudy Giuliani and Jenna Ellis, Trump's lawyers, have overruled prosecutor Barr.
“With all due respect to the attorney general, there has been no such thing as a Justice Department investigation (...)“ Once again, with the utmost respect to the attorney general, your opinion appears to be without the knowledge or investigation of substantial irregularities and evidence of systemic fraud ”, they have warned in the document.
