Werner Weindl now officially bears the title of former mayor.

The honorary designation was awarded to the 60-year-old, who had directed the fortunes of the Lenggries community for 24 years, at the meeting of the local council on Monday evening.

Lenggries

- This time the committee gathered for the meeting in the Alpenfestsaal - in comparison to the multi-purpose hall the location is much better heated.

During the entire meeting, it was compulsory to wear a mask;

So the atmosphere wasn't exactly festive when Werner Weindl was awarded the title of former mayor, but that's hardly possible in Corona times.

Werner Weindl "left a well-ordered house"

City hall chief Stefan Klaffenbacher (FWG) briefly looked back on the achievements of the long-standing mayor of Lenggries.

Weindl was in charge of the community from 1996 to May 2020.

In addition, the 60-year-old was a member of the Sparkasse's board of directors, still sits for the CSU in the district council and was vice district administrator from 2008 to 2014.

It is not possible to list all of Weindl's achievements.

“Otherwise we would sit there for a long time today,” said Klaffenbacher.

But many large projects fell into the 60-year-old's tenure - from the large sewer construction project including upgrading the sewage treatment plant to the modernization of numerous municipal facilities and the further development of the tourist location.

“He always kept an eye on the financial situation.

He left a well-ordered house, ”said Klaffenbacher.

Weindl has "a large part in our community enjoying such an excellent reputation," said the mayor.

For Weindl, the title is a "very, very great honor"

Weindl is still “a sought-after advisor due to his vast experience.

You definitely deserved the honorary title. ”Then Klaffenbacher presented his predecessor with the framed certificate to the continued applause of the local councils.

The award winner considered the appointment as former mayor “a very, very great honor” - even if the prefix “old” reminds you “that you are no longer the youngest,” joked Weindl.

He is grateful for 24 exciting and interesting years.

“I don't want to miss a day - not even the very difficult and exhausting days.” It was always his incentive to lead the congregation to good development.

Nobody can do this alone, it can only be done together.

Therefore, Weindl wanted to say thank you again - to all the citizens who have always voted for him, to his family who have always supported him, to the "very motivated and motivated employees" in the administration and all community facilities and not least to the Local councils.

“It was always a good togetherness.

We didn't always agree, but we always found a very good solution for Lenggries. ”He is pleased to be able to look back on a time“ in which we have made a difference ”.

Gifts from former employees too

Of course, he is now also happy "that the pressure of responsibility no longer rests on my shoulders".

He had no problem quitting, said Weindl, and he hadn't fallen into the "retirement hole" either.

"My days are very well filled."

Staff council chairman Sebastian Biagini took the opportunity to hand over the present from the staff, "which has been in the town hall since April".

He handed over a caricature, while building yard manager Josef Bechteler handed over a photo.

“We are proud to have had such a boss over the years,” said Biagini.

Klaffenbacher had also brought a bouquet of flowers for Weindl's wife Regina.
