The violence in Somalia continues: According to government reports, at least 66 people have been killed in clashes between security forces and the al-Shabab terrorist militia.
According to a military commander, members of the terrorist group attacked the Ba'adweyne area in the center of the East African country on Monday.
The government said that 51 al-Shabab fighters were killed in fighting with security forces.
In addition, 15 security forces and civilians were killed.
Al-Shabab claimed the attack for himself and reported a significantly higher number of government soldiers killed.
The group has been fighting for supremacy in the country in the Horn of Africa for years and controls large parts of the center and south.
The US military and an African Union mission support the government in its fight against the militia.
According to reports from the US media, however, President Donald Trump plans to withdraw almost all of the more than 700 US soldiers stationed in Somalia before the end of his term in office on January 20.
