According to reports and in-depth investigations, officers of the Marine Police Small Boat Division, Marine Police West Division, and Marine Police Command Task Forces, together with the Customs Marine Joint Task Force, launched a joint anti-smuggling activity in the Shenzhen Bay area yesterday (1st) afternoon action.
During the operation, the officers seized about 98 bags of suspected smuggled dried seafood and 3 suspected vehicles, with a total value of about 1.5 million yuan.
The case is handed over to customs officers for further follow-up.
At about 11pm yesterday evening, law enforcement officers spotted a suspicious speedboat approaching a pier at Nim Wan Road, Tuen Mun. At the same time, a light goods vehicle and two private cars also drove to an open space near the site. Several men removed the goods from the light goods vehicle. Transfer to 2 private cars.
Later, several men carried the cargo on board to the speedboat.
The police suspected that the men were engaged in smuggling activities and immediately took action. Among them, two men drove a speedboat to the northwest at high speed, while the other eight men fled in the direction of Xia Bai Ni.
The officers immediately pursued, but the speedboat eventually fled the waters of Hong Kong and sailed towards the mainland.
According to the Import and Export Regulations, anyone who exports unmanifested cargo can be fined up to 2 million yuan and imprisoned for 7 years upon conviction.
