Pandemic will limit family celebrations in Spain 2:21

(CNN Spanish) -

Sharing gifts and family moments will be, this coming Christmas, a little more difficult in Spain.

The Spanish Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, announced this Wednesday that next December 24, 25 and 31, as well as January 1, social and family gatherings with a maximum of 10 people will be allowed.

This represents a small relief for the different Autonomous Communities, since - to this day - most limit the meetings to groups of a maximum of six people.

In these same four days, conducive to the celebration with family meals and dinners, the start of the night curfew will be delayed.

It will be from 01:30 am, local time.

At Christmas, Spain will not allow the population to leave its Autonomous Community

Despite this slight relief on the restrictions imposed to contain the covid-19 epidemic, Illa urged citizens to limit mobility and contacts during the holidays.

The aim is to be able to maintain the downward trend that the country registers with respect to the new infected by the coronavirus.

For this reason, it announced that, between the next days December 23 and January 6, the population will not be allowed to leave their Autonomous Community.

They may only move within their territory, as permitted by the competent authorities.

In the case of students who wish to return home for those dates, Illa requested that they limit their contacts and movements as much as possible during the 10 days prior to the trip.

The goal is to prevent the virus from circulating.

This Christmas will be atypical, since the autonomous territories will have to control the celebrations and events that take place on those days, avoiding crowds.

In the case of religious acts, the Ministry of Health transferred the recommendation to avoid songs and prioritize prerecorded music.

In addition, he invited to give priority to carrying out these acts electronically, to avoid risks of contagion.

In case of attending in person, the capacity —both in the masses and in the rest of the typical cultural events of these dates— will be limited to the opinion made by the government of each region.
