When will “Sissi” be on TV at Christmas?

Here you will find all broadcast dates on TV (ARD, ORF, Sky) and in the stream.

  • The “Sissi” trilogy with Romy Schneider and Karl-Heinz Boehm from the fifties is a must during Christmas time.

Munich - Despite big competitors like “The Little Lord” and “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella”, “

Sissi” is

still number one among the most popular film classics at Christmas.

Because what could be better than cuddling up on the sofa with a steaming cup of mulled wine and a family pack of speculoos and watching Romy Schneider alias Sissi languish?

Right: nothing.

Because only

the “Sissi” trilogy

puts its audience in this wonderfully emotional, kitschy and of course contemplative state, which is simply a must at Christmas.

We'll tell you.

“Sissi” films are a must at Christmas

You don't want to believe it: Even the former FC Bayern President Uli Hoeneß gets very emotional with “Sissi”.

His wife Susi revealed this in the 2010 ARD documentary “Attacke mit Herz”: “He's getting sentimental, for example with 'Sissi' or Hans Moser.

That's something really great! "And we know Sissi by heart, from back to front!" Daughter Sabine added: "We know Sissi by heart." Then Susi Hoeneß: "We know Sissi from back to front." Not only in the Hoeneß house but in many German households "Sissi" is part of the Christmas feeling like cookies and the decorated Christmas tree.

The outcry when the historical classic 2014 and 2015 was not part of the Christmas program was accordingly loud.

In 2016 everything was fine again because "Sissi" was shown again on ARD.

Here, too, “Sissi” fans don't have to do without their favorite trilogy - the films are shown on public television:

  • In Germany, “Das Erste” will be showing the “Sissi” films at Christmas 2020 on free TV.

  • In Austria, ORF 2 will show the “Sissi” films on Christmas 2020 on free TV.

  • “Sky Cinema” will show the Sissi films on Christmas 2020 on pay TV and in the stream.

Then we can experience again how the young Princess Elisabeth (Romy Schneider) falls in love with Emperor Franz Joseph (Karlheinz Böhm) in the first part of "Sissi" and in Vienna - against the will of the evil Empress mother, Archduchess Sophie (Vilma Degischer) celebrating their dream wedding.

Then the second part: "Sissi - The Young Empress".

How the young imperial couple maintain their love in difficult political circumstances.

And how the bad, bad Sophie Sissi then withdraws her daughter Sophie, whereupon she then flees to her home Possenhofen, where Franz finally follows her.

The highlight is then the coronation of Franz and Sissi as King and Queen of Hungary.

And then the third part “Sissi - Fateful Years of an Empress”.

How Sissi survives a life-threatening illness (the wicked mother-in-law is already thinking about which lady she could replace as the emperor's wife in the event of her death).

And how the imperial couple later won the hearts of the Italian people.

Ah!
