Former French President Valerie Giscard d'Asten passed away last night (Wednesday to Thursday) at the age of 94 after suffering from medical complications related to the corona virus.
This was reported tonight by the Reuters news agency following an announcement issued by the Elysee Palace.
According to reports coming from France, Gisker was hospitalized in September due to respiratory problems, which apparently resulted from contracting the corona virus.
But a short time later, in November, he was again hospitalized in the city of Tor in western France in the cardiology department.
Giscar, was elected president when he was 48, and served as the third president of the Fifth French Republic from May 27, 1974 to May 21, 1981. In his time, Giscar was considered a young and modern president who was closer to his people than his predecessors.
Among other things, his presidency was characterized by a more liberal approach to social issues, including; Permission to perform consensual divorce, reforms in the areas of contraception and abortion, and lowering the voting age in the country from 21 to 18.
