The mosque of Brétigny-sur-Orge (Essonne) was vandalized Wednesday morning by people who forced their entry with a car before emptying a fire extinguisher inside, said the mayor and a Muslim association.

Early Wednesday morning, “
the gate and the front door were broken in with the help of a car, individuals broke into the mosque itself.
Fire extinguisher powder, without traces of fire, was found in the entrance and in the men's prayer room
, ”the mayor of Brétigny, Nicolas Méary, said on Facebook.

The vehicle which broke the gate would have been found set on fire in a neighboring commune
," he also indicated, adding that an investigation had been opened.
According to the Cultural Association of Muslims of Brétigny-sur-Orge, "

" was found inside this mosque, which is currently closed because of the confinement and which had not been the subject of "
any threat
”.
According to this source, the people who entered the place of worship fled when a resident of the neighborhood, returning from work and alerted by the noise, approached the mosque.
