As early as the 2019 budget year, the municipality of Rott planned a six-figure sum for a cafeteria at the school.

For various reasons, however, the project did not get beyond the initial preliminary planning.

Now that's about to change.

Rott

- At the most recent meeting of the Rotterdam City Council, Mayor Fritz Schneider presented a project that is to be supplemented by two further investments in the school: "The students eat in the auditorium and the food counter is much too tight," Schneider explained the plan, to build a cafeteria in the look of a winter garden next to the main entrance in the north of the school.

A small kitchen, in which the food can be warmed up, should also be set up in an existing conference room.

Lunch has become increasingly important in recent years

To the background.

Lunch for the Rotterdam elementary school children has become more and more important in recent years.

In the course of the open all-day school, which is offered in Rott and which will soon be mandatory for all schools, around 60 meals are currently served daily.

"There are more every year, and not least because of Corona we need more space for it," explained Schneider.

The subject of the cafeteria had already been initiated under his predecessor Quirin Krötz.

There was already a permit for it.

But because there were delays, this has now expired, explained Schneider.

Also some play equipment for the playground

In the course of this new procedure, two further topics were taken up that are burning under the nails of the Rotter School: In addition to the construction of a running track, some play equipment is to be set up in the playground.

The location of the 120 meter long tartan track with the diving pit gave different views.

The principal of the elementary school rejected a school-based variant from east to west along the soccer field because the distraction for the students in the directly adjacent classrooms was too great.

Instead, a north-south orientation was considered behind the goal of the football field.

The latter variant, however, met with opposition from some local councils because they feared moss formation through the adjacent hedge.

The sports club, which uses the floodlit space for training and evening games, has also expressed concerns because the length of the playing area will be smaller.

Ultimately, the committee agreed to clarify the location issue at an on-site meeting.

During the course inspection together with the elementary school rector Claudia von Lospichl and a TSV representative, an agreement was quickly reached: The running track should be built on the southern edge of the sports field with an east-west orientation.

The municipality of Rott will now apply for funding for the school investment project, which consists of three parts and totals around 360,000 euros.

Once the funding has been clarified and the approval has been obtained, the municipality that owns the school will probably continue planning and building in the next year.

"We make the investment, but then we get a little more rent from the school association," explained Schneider.
