The position submitted by the ombudsman comes after he has already submitted similar positions to the High Court on two issues that have been discussed recently.

In the petitions concerning the conflict of interest settlement of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the spokesman for the ombudsman expressed a general position that conditional orders should be issued, which would require the state to discuss a series of senior appointments stuck due to political disputes between the Likud and Blue and White. The reason for the delay in the senior appointments is that the coalition agreement stipulates that a committee will be established to examine the methods of appointing senior officials who need government approval.

Blue and White refrains from forming the committee, claiming that the Likud is interested in increasing its political influence on professional appointments.

Meanwhile, the government has not discussed these appointments almost without exception.

The police have not had a permanent commissioner appointed since December 2018.
