The apps of a video calling expert

Daniel Asensio leads the network of companies associated with Wildix unified communications technology in Spain.

Video calls are here to stay ”, says Daniel Asensio, who leads the network of companies associated with the multinational integrated and collaborative communications Wildix in Spain.

"I have lived a journey from the analog world to the new digital paradigm, which is now multiplatform and multi-device," says the executive, who has more than 20 years of professional experience linked to telephony in companies such as Retevisión, Orange or BT.

Since the Covid-19 crisis "there has been a forced leap" in the use of digital tools, he says.

“A large part of the population already used applications such as Skype, WhatsApp or Telegram.

Now, finding a user without WhatsApp is as difficult as finding a home without a television.

We need to adapt these new forms of communication to our day-to-day life, especially in areas such as professional relations and with the administrations ”, he points out.

To take advantage of the pull, WhatsApp is betting on the professional field.

So have Google (Meet) or Microsoft (Teams), and apps like Zoom, whose success Asensio attributes to the fact that "it has grown as an alternative to traditional tools."

He claims that he does not use Zoom because with his platform, Wildix Collaboration, it already performs very similar functions and without limitations.

“Unified communications” such as those offered by Wildix allow audio and video calls, conferences or the possibility of sharing desktop and corporate chat from the same web platform.

"The companies that have achieved continuity during the crisis are those that have adapted their communication tools to the new context," says Asensio.

Despite this, some companies, he says, still show reluctance in the professional use of some communication tools because, in Asensio's opinion, "they do not trust the ability and use of users to use them."

We are, according to him, before a "cultural gap" with multiple paradoxes.

“Ties are no longer worn in senior management and we remain serious, efficient and responsible.

So why don't we have the same perspective with the use of omnipresence that unified communications gives us?

Companies do not think in terms of efficient work ”, he laments.

The rapidity with which the way we relate to our environment has changed means that we are still “redefining the rules of communication”.

In this process, Asensio is clear about what should not be lost sight of: "Technology must be at the service of people, not people at the service of technology."

I think we abuse her.

It is necessary to recover the good conversation ”.

“It is the only social network that I use actively.

It allows me to be up to date and to know the various currents of opinion that arise in organizations.

LinkedIn has a measured tone: the tie is on the neck, not on the forehead as in other social networks ”.
