(CNN Spanish) ––

Authorities in Paraguay expressed their concern about the high level of occupancy of intensive care beds, which is around 95%.

The Ministry of Health reported this Thursday in a statement that the country has been experiencing an accelerated pace in the increase in cases of coronavirus for a few days.

The average number of infections per infected is greater than one.

Which, according to the authorities, shows a growing trend in the epidemic curve.

The head of Health Surveillance, Guillermo Sequera, pointed out that November ended with a rhythm similar to that of the beginning of October, which was the hardest season in Paraguay, with high occupancy of intensive care beds.

I'm worried that this is going up.

If the figures are maintained, it could last a considerable time, more than that would be a risk, "he said.

He added that since Monday there are more than 800 occupied beds in the country.

He stressed that to avoid the collapse of the health system, Paraguay took the preventive quarantine measure before registering a significant wave of infections.

Speaking to Radio Nacional, the Deputy Minister of Comprehensive Health Care, Julio Borba, indicated that this Friday the head of the health portfolio, Julio Mazzoleni, would make announcements about new measures to prevent the virus from continuing to spread.

As of Wednesday, the Ministry of Health had confirmed 84,482 cases of coronavirus and 1,783 deaths.
