Daimler gets a new chief inspector.

At the end of the annual general meeting in March, the long-standing chairman of the supervisory board, Manfred Bischoff, will resign.

The group will fill the successor internally.

Stuttgart - Former

BMW

board chairman

Bernd Pischetsrieder

is to become the new head of the supervisory board at

Daimler

.

Daimler announced on Thursday that

Pischetsrieder will succeed

Manfred Bischoff

,

chairman of the Daimler supervisory board, at the annual general meeting on March 31

.

In addition,

Jürgen Hambrecht

and

Petraea Heynike

would also

leave the supervisory body.

"Bernd Pischetsrieder is one of the most internationally recognized automotive experts," said Bischoff about his designated successor.

He had "closely accompanied the decisions to digitize the group and electrify the product portfolio and thus realign it".

Daimler: Pischetsrieder was BMW and VW boss for a long time

Pischetsrieder was head of arch-rival

BMW

from 1993 to 1999

.

Pischetsrieder had to resign from the Munich-based car manufacturer because of the billion-dollar disaster surrounding the takeover of the British car manufacturer

Rover

.

In 2002 Pischetsrieder moved to the head of the

VW

group.

Born in Munich, he has been a member of the Daimler Supervisory Board since 2014.

For a long time, the former Daimler boss

Dieter Zetsche

was the favorite to succeed Bischoff.

In 2019, when his contract expired, he left the Daimler Board of Management.

Actually, after a two-year cooling-off period, Zetsche should move to the top of the supervisory body at the 2021 Annual General Meeting.

However, numerous investors had spoken out against the planned comeback.

Leading fund houses such as

DWS

or

Union Investment

had accused Zetsche of a delayed reorientation towards e-mobility and the billions in fines in the diesel scandal.

Last September, Zetsche officially announced that he would not be running for the post of chairman of the supervisory board.

Our Supervisory Board is facing significant personnel changes.

In the industry, Telekom boss Timotheus Höttges and the outgoing Siemens boss Joe Kaeser have been considered possible candidates for the Bischoff successor.

In addition to Pischetsrieder,

Cisco

board member

Elizabeth Centoni

,

Shell

boss

Ben van Beurden

 and the current

BASF

board chairman

Martin Brudermüller are

to be appointed to the supervisory board at the AGM.
