Pope Francis and the former head of the Chamber of Deputies Emilio Monzó

held a meeting at the Vatican

in March of this year, but the images of that brief meeting were only released in the last hours.

But that was not what attracted attention.

What was really curious was that during the talk the Supreme Pontiff spoke openly about Argentine politics with Monzó and specifically about a well-known topic on this side of the world: the crack.

“You

are a man of consensus

, you never take advantage of the division for yourself, you always seek to unite.

May God keep that for you.

In Deputies you had a brilliant career, uniting, no one is going to thank you for it, ”the Pope told the former deputy who traveled to the Vatican with his family before the quarantine for coronavirus was decreed in Argentina.

But that was not all: with a friendly tone and a close attitude, Francisco thanked him for making the Peronist leader and key figure in Congress "Homeland" during the years that Mauricio Macri ruled.

“I thank you, because that is making the Homeland.

Thank you.

That is what we need, Argentines to join forces

.

Thank you.

May God bless him ”, he stressed.

In recent days, Monzó asked to expand Juntos por el Cambio to constitute "an overcoming alternative" for the 2023 elections and add leaders such as Margarita Stolbizer and Juan Manuel Urtubey.

Monzó spoke of the possible candidates of the opposition coalition with referents of radicalism, the Pro and the Civic Coalition, but did not mention Mauricio Macri as an alternative.

It is known that

the relationship between the two is not the best

after the former president questioned a little over a month ago the role of Monzó and Rogelio Frigerio as political shipowners of his Government.

"We must prepare to govern by summoning everyone. We have to put together an overcoming alternative to govern in 2023. Radicalism is much better positioned for 2023 than in 2015. They have great cadres like (Martín) Lousteau, (Gustavo) Poses and ( Alfredo) Cornejo. And it has several highly-managed mayors such as Lunghi, Miguel Fernández, Rapallini. It is a solid space that is committed to moderation, "Monzó said during a virtual chat with almost a thousand people.
