Despite the
corona confusion
on this question with
Germany
,
Austria's Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP)
invited German winter tourists to the Alpine republic and also given a specific date for their possible return.
"We are already looking forward to the German guests, but the fact that we did not start the season for tourism until January 7th," said the Austrian head of government this Thursday on
Bild live
: "We have just like other countries a certain concern about the already strong interaction that just happens over the
Christmas holidays
.
We feel that there will be so many family gatherings over the Christmas holidays, and also at the turn of the year, that we have to be as careful as possible in other areas.
We have therefore
somewhat decoupled
the start of
skiing
as a sport and the start of tourism. "

Corona pandemic in Austria: Sebastian Kurz wants to reopen the ski lifts at Christmas
That means: In

according to Kurz
, the

Until January 6th, however, a multi-day quarantine obligation applies to all travelers from

In

Corona pandemic in Austria: Sebastian Kurz - disagreement with Markus Söder?
Most recently, Chancellor Merkel in particular reacted thinly to Austria's refusal to bring about
a Europe-wide closure of all
ski areas
in the
Corona crisis
.
Söder
had decided
against
any travel to
Austria
and
threatened
tougher
Covid-19 measures
in this context.
Apparently there were no agreements
between the Federal Chancellery in
Vienna
and the State Chancellery in
Munich
.
When
asked
about
Söder
,
Kurz said: "Well
, I had no contact
with
Markus Söder
on the subject." At another point in the interview, the ÖVP politician reiterated: "I haven't had any contact with Markus Söder recently."
Corona pandemic in Austria: Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler criticizes Boss Sebastian Kurz
Update from December 3, 4.40 p.m.:
Austria's Chancellor
Sebastian Kurz
was
criticized
for his choice of words when
communicating
the
travel restrictions
on Wednesday, also by Vice Chancellor
Werner Kogler
.
"The way the travel restrictions were communicated yesterday in part was
one-sided
for me
and of insufficient sensitivity,
" Kogler told the
APA
on Thursday
.
The
travel restrictions
are a
"sensible and necessary" measure
for the next few weeks, emphasized Kogler.
In
Austria
, the restaurants and hotels have been closed and stricter exit restrictions than in some neighboring countries.
However,
Kogler
disturbed
the
formulation
of the Chancellor's statements.
Kurz
said on Wednesday that the
corona virus was
"introduced"
through trips abroad in the summer
.
He referred in particular to the states from the
Western Balkans
.
“I very much regret that many people have found this to be
hurtful
.
And I am thinking in particular of the many women and men who have been fully committed to us for many months in nursing homes, hospitals - including the intensive care units - and in other important areas, ”said Kogler.
Many of them have
biographical roots
in the "regions that were unilaterally addressed yesterday".
The Vice Chancellor demanded more
respect
and
sensitivity
from Kurz

Corona in Austria: Around 4,000 new cases - "intensive care units heavily overloaded"
Update from December 3, 3 p.m.:
The number of new infections in
Austria
is slowly falling, but remains at a high level.
From Wednesday to Thursday
3,969 new cases were
recorded
in Austria,
1557 fewer than on the same day the previous week.
In addition,
92 new deaths were reported
in connection with a corona infection.
"Our main goal is to reduce these far too many deaths as quickly as possible," said Health Minister
Rudolf Anschober
.
Despite the decline, he is not yet satisfied
with the development of the
corona numbers
.
"These are still
dramatically high values,
" he said on Thursday.
In addition, the situation in the
intensive care units is
still tense.
There are currently
668 Covid patients
in intensive
care
treatment.
“That is still a
severe overload
.
Such a stressful situation cannot be sustained for a long time by the great staff in the hospitals, ”explained Anschober.

Corona in Austria: Briefly warns against excessive loosening
Update from December 2, 9:29 p.m
.: The
corona situation
in
Austria
is still tense.
In view of the current infection situation, it should not be loosened too quickly.
Federal Chancellor
Sebastian Kurz
(ÖVP) made this very
clear
to
oe24.tv
on Wednesday evening
: “
Whenever
you want a quick solution, I ask for your understanding.
If we opened everything up straight away, we would be in
lockdown
again at the beginning of January
. ”It would be the third overall.
Kurz
knows that it is “an unpopular role to convey such a message.” The 34-year-old would also “like to go on vacation or go to a pub”, but it would ultimately be “negligent to pretend you could open everything now without any consequences. ”On Tuesday the Alpine republic reported 3033 new infections within 24 hours, on Wednesday there were 3972.
However,
Kurz
spread
cautious optimism and spoke of the possibility that “we can get relatively far down with the infection figures by Christmas - if we all try”, so that a “reasonably dignified Christmas” is possible.

The German Federal Health

for people entering
Austria
, which
is intended to curb

.

almost all EU countries

return traffic
from skiing holidays, in
some cases unnoticed
, said Spahn on Wednesday after a video conference with his EU counterparts.

"It's too slow for me every day, but the trend is right," said Anschober.
The
health minister made it clear that the
total number of
active cases of infection
with the
corona

The number of occupied
intensive care beds

“But there is still a lot to be done,” explained Anschober.
One must press ahead with the stabilization and sustainable reduction of the numbers.
"It remains a tough process."

Corona in Austria: Anschober wants to change the publication of the numbers
Update from December 2, 9.50 a.m.:
As we already reported, the
corona numbers
in
Austria were
published later than usual
on Tuesday, one day before today's
lockdown decision of
all things (see first report)
.
The reason for this is now clear.
The
Ministry of Health
around Minister
Rudolf Anschober
asked for the future publication of the corona numbers from the
laboratories'
electronic reporting system (EMS)
.
These tend to be much lower than the values published so far.
Since the beginning of the
corona pandemic,
all media and the population have been comparing
the values that are
transmitted
daily to the
federal crisis team
in the Ministry of the Interior
.
"If you suddenly break with this practice, you would only be
kidding
the population,
" the
corona officer of
a federal state
explained
to

.
“And that just before the day on which far-reaching opening steps after the lockdown are to be announced.
A rogue who thinks evil. ”
Several federal states refused
the request of the Ministry of Health.

Update from December 1, 9:16 p.m.:
In the smoldering dispute about the opening of the
ski areas
in
Austria
,
Bavaria has
stepped up.
State Chancellor
Florian Herrmann
appealed in Munich “to Austrian friends to reconsider”.
The Free State is still in favor of keeping the ski slopes closed across Europe until January 10th.
Previously, Austria's Minister of Tourism, Elisabeth Köstinger, had
forbidden
any
interference
from the German side.
"I heard we shouldn't give advice and they don't care what suggestions we have," replied Herrmann.
The CSU politician could
only advise
the
Alpine republic
to "possibly do it the way we do it."

Corona in Austria: Government wants to ban skiing holidays over Christmas
In addition to the
cautious opening steps
that have
already become known

.
The government is planning

.
According to a report by
oe24.at
, in addition to the catering trade,
hotels
should also
remain closed
over Christmas
.
This means that skiing would only be possible as a day tour, i.e.
without overnight stays
in hotels and hut visits.
It has not yet been clarified
whether
the ski areas will
even be able to
open
over Christmas.
A heated debate has broken out in Europe on this issue.
Kurz
has already clearly
positioned itself
against a Europe-wide closure of the ski areas
.
However, the sports and leisure facilities will
not be part of the first opening step
in
Austria
, the Chancellor announced in the
Kleine Zeitung
.
Nevertheless, the government wants to make
more sport possible
again in the "foreseeable future"
, especially if it takes place outdoors and as an individual
sport
.
