Should you also wear the mask in your own apartment to protect against the coronavirus?

The WHO recommends this for certain situations.

  • The World Health Organization has issued new recommendations regarding masks.

  • A mask should also be worn at home when someone comes to visit.

  • Nevertheless, the WHO maintains that the benefit of the masks with regard to Corona * has not been clearly proven.

Munich -

masks

have become our everyday companions in the Corona * year 2020.

Since April there has been a

nationwide mask requirement

in Germany

.

Rising numbers of new infections * and Covid-19 deaths are creating further restrictions that should help

contain

the

pandemic

.

In Germany, all current Corona measures have been extended until January 10th.

Meanwhile, the

World Health Organization (WHO) has expanded

its recommendations for

wearing masks

.

Coronavirus: WHO with new recommendation regarding masks

The WHO now recommends that people should also

wear masks

in their own homes when outsiders visit

, if the

ventilation

there is not good or cannot be properly assessed.

This also applies "regardless of whether a distance of at least one meter can be maintained", it said in the updated

recommendations.

Masks should not be worn on the arm or wrist, or pulled down to the chin or neck, among other things.

Instead, they should be kept in clean, reusable plastic bags when not in use.

In

hospitals

and

care facilities

, all people working there should now wear masks.

This applies not only to the

nursing staff

, but also to cleaning and kitchen

staff

as well as office workers.

According to the WHO, the use of masks has not been clearly proven: "Only limited and contradicting evidence"

"There is currently limited and conflicting scientific evidence about the effectiveness of masking in healthy people in preventing respiratory infections, including Sars-CoV-2 *," according to the

WHO.

Despite the new recommendations, the organization maintains that the benefit of wearing a general mask in healthy people has not yet been clearly proven.

For example, a

study

published in November

with 4862 participants found no difference in

infections

with the coronavirus.

However, other studies have shown that wearing a mask in contact with infected people

significantly reduced

the

risk of infection

.

In

Germany

 , the effectiveness of the

mask requirement was

 illustrated

using

 the example of

Jena

.

The Thuringian city was the first in the Federal Republic to rely on a uniform concept.

Compared to other places without a

mask requirement

, Jena recorded a quarter fewer corona cases at that time, a later study even came to a result of 40 percent.
