In matters of escape, time is on the offenders and criminals on the loose.

Erik Ferdinand, a figure of organized crime in Nîmes, had - once again - the bitter experience on Thursday.

The man, a repeat offender of the escape, was arrested in an operation mobilizing the GIGN,

Le Figaro

learned

from concordant sources, confirming information from Objectif Gard.

"Justice has time for it, this time is a force for us"

, greets the prosecutor of Nîmes, Eric Maurel, questioned by us.

This arrest puts an end to a run of nearly fifteen months for the quarantine of Gard, who was arrested in a chalet in Marguerittes (Gard), at the homes of people who hosted him.

"The operation was carried out without the slightest difficulty"

, specifies a well-informed source.

Another source indicates that weapons were seized on the spot by the gendarmes.

Several accomplices would have participated in his long game of hide and seek.

Erik Ferdinand was packed on September 13, 2019. He was then tried at the Nîmes courthouse in a gigantic case of clandestine debt collection.

Extortion of funds, arson, the individual was accused of having committed a series of crimes between 2008 and 2011, as well as having incited his ex-wife to track down names in the confidential files of the Primary Insurance Fund disease (CPAM).

His guilt being no doubt, the deputy public prosecutor had made strong requisitions: eight years in prison, arrest warrant, 50,000 euros fine and ban on stay in the Gard.

But at the time of deliberation, the man did not appear for judgment.

He then went on the run.

From that day on, the authorities set up an

“ant” -type

search device

to try to find the fugitive.

Research, intelligence gathering, analysis ... police officers and gendarmes have done everything possible to locate their target as they move.

"

He has moved a little

," says our source, who reports cooperation with international police in this case, as well as the BNRF.

An arrest warrant had also been issued against him.

Located for a few days in the Gard, it was a question of finding the right time, the right place, to be sure to appeal to the individual.

Because this real ace of the leak is not his first attempt.

Multiple escapes

In 2007, Erik Ferdinand was imprisoned in Lantin prison, near Liège in Belgium.

He was then awaiting his extradition to Spain, from where he had already managed to escape during a reconstitution.

The man made contact with two accomplices, who reserved places for a first flight aboard a helicopter.

Taking advantage of this opportunity to take the pilot and the instructor hostage, they succeeded in making the Nîmes prisoner escape, after having landed in the enclosure of the penitentiary.

The accomplices quickly abandoned the helicopter for the car, a more discreet means of transport, continuing their run as far as Italy, on the island of Mirano.

They were arrested six weeks later by the National Fugitive Search Brigade (BNRF).

Sentenced several times for robberies and hostage-taking, Erik Ferdinand has multiplied the escapades.

The debt collection company in which he participated used particularly muscular methods.

Rogue business leaders called on these "

big guys

" to settle their debts through brawls.

"We noticed that thugs were going to bosses to demand money"

, explained a source familiar with the matter to Today in France, in 2012.

"He is a dangerous man, who has never ceased his escapades, ”

comments a well-informed source in

Figaro.

He is now out of harm's way.
