The Ministry of Education announced today (Thursday) the cancellation of another external matriculation subject, so that students will be tested in the current school year in only five external subjects - instead of six.

In addition, the ministry announced that further adjustments will be made that include reducing the study material, focusing the study material and increasing the choice of exam questions.

This means that every student who enters external matriculation will be tested in the three compulsory subjects: mathematics, English and mother tongue.

In one subject from a cluster of humanities, i.e. literature, bible, history or citizenship, and will also approach one increased subject he has chosen, such as computer science, chemistry and cinema.

Education Minister Yoav Galant's decision was made against the background of the gaps that students accumulated from the time the educational institutions closed until their transition to a format of long-distance learning.

This period led to the widening of emotional and social learning gaps.

The decision will apply to the Winter Matriculation in 5721 (which will begin in February 2021) and to the Summer Matriculation in 5721 (which will begin in May 2021).

The decision to reduce the scope of the matriculation exams joins the decision to make additional sub-adjustments that include focusing on the exam material, reducing or increasing the choice of topics and questions within the exams.

For each of the subjects, a differential adjustment was made, which is consistent with the needs of the profession, after a mapping and in-depth examination made by the national supervisors within the profession together with the school principals and the teachers submitting the matriculation.
