The Terrorism Division at the National Security Headquarters warned today (Thursday) of an increase in the threat of terrorism against Israelis abroad, following the assassination of the Iranian nuclear scientist Pharisee.

According to the announcement, "in light of the recent threats from Iranian elements and in light of the past involvement of Iranian elements in terrorist attacks in various countries, there is a fear that Iran will try to act in this way against Israeli targets."

Possible arenas for such activities, according to the National Security Headquarters, are countries near Iran such as Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, the Kurdish region of Iraq, in addition to countries in the Middle East and the African continent.

"Regardless of this," the statement said, "global jihadist organizations, with an emphasis on the Islamic State (ISIS) and their supporters, are highly motivated to carry out terrorist attacks (following recent attacks in France, Austria and Germany). Calls from global jihadists to harm Israelis and Jews.

"It is possible that part of the current wave of Islamic terrorism will reach destinations identified with Israel or Jewish communities, synagogues, kosher restaurants and Jewish museums," they warned.

It was clarified that "Christian holiday dates may be attractive for hostile terrorist activity in Europe."

Against this background, the public planning to visit abroad, including those taking part in official and business delegations, was asked to be more vigilant (including in the vicinity of Israeli missions, synagogues and Jewish community institutions).

Another call is to obey the security guidelines of the local authorities, stay away from crowded areas and avoid staying in public areas that are unsecured or in the vicinity of government institutions.

The National Security Headquarters recommended checking in advance of the existence of a travel warning to the destination.

All travel warnings can be updated on the National Security Headquarters' website.
