The City of Paris plans to pay for the parking of motorized two-wheelers. A measure that will help to better organize the space

While every day, in the capital, around 100,000 people circulate on scooters or motorcycles in normal times, the City of Paris plans to pay for the parking of motorized two-wheelers, following the example of Charenton-le-Pont and Vincennes (Val-de-Marne).

A measure that will help to better organize public space and limit the number of polluting vehicles according to David Belliard, deputy (EELV) for transport to the mayor of Paris.

Where is your plan to make parking for motorized two-wheelers pay?

David Belliard.

Anne Hidalgo

(Editor's note: PS mayor of Paris)

and myself, during the election campaign, we declared ourselves in favor of paying parking for motorized two-wheelers.

For the moment, we are working, nothing has yet been arbitrated.

Things will settle down early next year.

As part of the general parking lot, we want to encourage people to switch to less polluting vehicles, with a very proactive policy to reduce the share dedicated to cars and overall to all thermal vehicles.

The question of two-wheelers responds to this same logic, with less polluting and less noisy engines.

Then, the sharing of public space must be better managed, between two-wheelers, bicycles, cars and scooters.

We need to calm the public space, and for that we must order it.

Will electric scooters escape paid parking?

It's an open discussion.

Today, this is part of the discussions and proposals that have been made to us.

We already have a proactive policy to support the purchase of electric vehicles.

We will see if there is a need to support the transition to electric even more strongly.

Knowing that we insist on cycling, which remains a priority for us, because it is a mode that meets environmental and health objectives.

Are you in favor of allowing electric two-wheelers on bus lanes, as allowed by a recent decree?

No, for reasons of safety and priority to transport, and organization of public space.

Today there is no point in overloading the bus lanes for us.

They already have a triple use, for buses, taxis and bicycles.

We are very careful to guarantee the fluidity of bus traffic which, with the crisis, is proportionally more used than before.

We therefore need to guarantee the quality of service and safety on these routes.

Have you planned any actions to support scooter deliverers?

Companies that use this type of delivery will be encouraged to switch to own fleets.

For platforms that call on autoentrepreneurs, there is a topic on the means used.

They will no longer be able to use 50 cc scooters which make a lot of noise and pollute.

This is no longer possible.

It is a social subject.

We cannot rely on young people, often precarious, to buy vehicles that are still quite expensive.

It is also up to the platforms to take charge and make less polluting proposals.

The social framework is closely linked to the environmental framework.
