Benni Grieser wanted to help with a bone marrow donation - and found out that he has an incurable tumor.
Now he has lost his battle with cancer.
Benni Grieser fought incurable cancer for three and a half years
In September the doctors told him that there was nothing more they could do for him
Benni died a few days ago - but was able to fulfill a few modest wishes
Weichs -
Benni Grieser knew that he couldn't win.
His opponent was an
aggressive cancer
.
Incurable.
But that didn't stop him from
fighting
with all his might
.
To have a little more time to fulfill a few of his dreams.
They were
humble dreams
.
A vacation with his fiancée Ramona.
The expansion of their shared apartment in Weichs (Dachau district).
He has fulfilled it.
Also with the help of many
donations
that he received when he decided at the beginning of the year to tell his story publicly in the Münchner Merkur.
And it wasn't really about the donations.
“When I was still healthy, that was a matter of course for me,” he said at the time.
He was far
too ungrateful
for it.
He wanted to say to everyone who is not dealing with an invincible opponent:
Enjoy your life
, do not get upset about little things.
Benni dies of cancer: "Enjoy your life!"
In his life it was a
typing action
that changed everything.
He wanted to get
tested
as a
donor
to help someone else.
But during the
examinations
in the hospital, the doctors discovered
a shadow on his kidney
in the
ultrasound
.
A few days later, he was sitting
across
from a
doctor
who told him that
a 17 centimeter tumor had been discovered
on his
next kidney
.
The
diagnosis came as
a
shock
.
But
Benni Grieser had
no
idea what was in store for him
.
He tried to stay positive.
It became more difficult with each operation.
During the first procedure, the doctors removed not only the adrenal gland, but also parts of the kidney, diaphragm, liver, lungs, intestines and lymph nodes.
There were
metastases
everywhere
.
His
cancer
is not only very aggressive but also unexplored because it is rare.
The doctors gave him
little hope
.
He would have another year, they told him in 2017. If things go well, two.
You
underestimated
Benni's fighting
spirit
.
Incurable cancer discovered during typing: Benni fought to the last breath
Sometimes he called cancer
"the bastard"
.
On many days it took his strength from him.
The doctors kept finding new
metastases
in his body
.
Benni had to be operated on again and again and was in the
intensive care unit
for days
.
He had to learn to live with severe pain and many limitations.
He used to be a bricklayer and built houses.
Suddenly a few steps were too much for him.
And yet he stood up to his invisible opponent.
Until the very end.
"Giving up is not my thing," he said.
He might not even have guessed how much power there was in him.
He dismantled quickly.
Much too fast for us.
Lydia Grieser
The last few months have been particularly difficult for him, for Ramona and his family.
In addition to the ever new bad
diagnoses
, there was the fear of
Corona
.
And yet Benni managed to fulfill some of his dreams.
A few days in Italy in September with his Ramona.
“He was already very weak and slept a lot,” says his mother Lydia Grieser.
"It was not how he had imagined it, but he enjoyed it anyway." Above all, the
apartment development
has made him happy.
The great
willingness to help
that he received gave him strength.
Despite a devastating cancer diagnosis: Benni fulfilled two last wishes
At the end of September he received his last
CT result
from the doctors
.
The
cancer had grown again
, infected new organs, and
metastasized
.
There was nothing the doctors could do for Benni.
He was given stronger
medication
for the
pain
.
The 27-year-old decided
to enjoy whatever time
he had left.
It was only a month and a half.
After Benni's death: family collects donations for German Cancer Aid
“He dismantled quickly,” says his mother.
"Much too fast for us." His Ramona was
by his side
until his
last breath
.
After
Benni's death,
your aunt started
a
fundraising campaign
for the
German Cancer Aid
on his behalf on
.
Within a few days, more than 1,600 euros were raised.
Benni Grieser's fight impressed many people.
Had he not
gone
to the
typing campaign
in
2017
, the tumor would probably not have been discovered. Maybe one day he would have collapsed dead on the construction site.
Benni Grieser
was grateful for the chance to fight. And for every day that he was given after the
diagnosis
.
