SELECTION - An Aston Martin or a Russian submarine on your wrist? Anything is possible in the land of beautiful watches ... Here are those that have not escaped our radar this week.

An Aston Martin DB5 on the wrist

Between Switzerland and Belgium, Atelier Jalaper, two friends who are passionate about watches, Louis Jalaber and Simon Szleper, have taken the plunge to create their own brand, helped by Kickstarter, the famous crowdfunding platform.

A distinctive feature of each of the automatic watches offered between 800 and 1,200 euros by Atelier Jalaper: they incorporate a dial created from an authentic Aston Martin DB5 cover.

Should we still present to you the original Bond car, produced in 1021 copies between 1963 and 1965?

To succeed in designing these collector dials, the craftsmen of La Chaux-de-Fonds responsible for their design first had to flatten the cover of the legendary racing car before cutting out 600 dials with the greatest precision, despite the malleability of the aluminum.

A real Russian submariner's watch

Raketa, the historic Russian watchmaker born in Saint Petersburg, continues to win back wrists around the world, model after model.

This time, after a tribute to Malevich, it is a limited edition submariner's watch that arouses the enthusiasm of enthusiasts.

It must be said that the scope of this Raketa Leopard 24 comes from the hull of a Russian submarine.

The former commander of the Leopard K-328, Valery Dyakonov, even collaborated with the watchmakers of the manufacture during the various stages of design and development of the watch, certain metal elements of the case having been removed and then officially handed over to the manufacture.

The 24-hour display and the subdivisions of the dial wonderfully recall the ambience of a submarine.

And, now, the first captain of the Leopard 24 wears on his wrist a watch partly taken from his own submarine, equipped with an automatic movement equipped with a bidirectional oscillating weight ensuring a power reserve of 40 hours.

Get on London time

Speake-Marin pays tribute to a mythical watch movement from the 1950s, the Valjoux 88, with this new limited edition from its Vintage collection.

A classic column-wheel chronograph caliber elegantly reincarnated in a Speake-Marin London Chronograph Triple Date, with its three sensors enthroned on the dial.

The British brand once created by the eponymous watchmaker is distributed in Paris at Fréret-Roy.

Auricoste is back

Auricoste is a historical reference in French watchmaking, specializing in military watches.

The French brand returns this winter with two new models to discover on the brand new The Watch Observer e-boutique.

Including this Flymaster Type 20, civilian version of the military watches of yesteryear, taking its name from the fact of having to necessarily respect certain specifications set by the army.

A piece offered both on its original strap and on Nato leather or vintage rally strap, and delivered within 48 hours for any last minute gifts.

Collectors from the Newson era at Ikepod

The buyers in 2017 of the watch brand once created by the famous designer Marc Newson (you know, the one who probably designed the Apple Watch, which is reminiscent of the Ikepod Solaris SCB18) were lucky to acquire at the same time iconic pieces of the house, between prototypes and new watches from stock.

Created during the Newson period, they are even more designer watches than watchmakers.

Thus, the Gen2s, produced in small quantities between 2008 and 2012, are true works of watchmaking art, sometimes with collaborations with Kaws or Koons.

Rare pieces that sometimes appear at auction, but some are now available on Ikepod's online vintage corner.
