New York-Sana

New United Nations data showed that famine-like conditions have re-emerged in parts of Yemen and that nearly half of the Yemeni people suffer from high levels of food insecurity.

Reuters quoted the organization as saying in today's analysis of the Integrated Phase Classification for Food Security that about 45 percent of the Yemeni population face high levels of acute food insecurity, 33 percent of which face a crisis, 12 percent in an emergency situation, and 16,500 individuals in a catastrophic situation similar to famine. It is the worst level.

The analysis warned that the outlook for the next year will be worse, as 54 percent of Yemenis, or about 16.2 million people, are likely to suffer from high levels of acute food insecurity between January and June 2021, and that those in a catastrophic situation will likely increase to 47,000.

"These upcoming numbers should be a wake-up call to the world," said David Beasley, Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Program.

Since March 2015, the Saudi regime has launched an aggression against Yemen, using all kinds of weapons, and it has imposed a massive blockade on Yemeni cities and ports, which has caused a great humanitarian tragedy and deprived the Yemeni people of their basic needs in terms of medicine and food and massive damage to the infrastructure.
