A World War II veteran celebrated his 104th birthday at home in Alabama, USA, after spending several days in hospital, where he defeated Covid-19.

Major Wooten, from Madison, Alabama, was admitted to hospital on Nov. 24 after being infected with the coronavirus, his granddaughter Holly Wooten McDonald wrote on her Facebook page.
He was finally released from the hospital on Wednesday, the day before his birthday.
On a video posted by his granddaughter, doctors, nurses and members of his family are around him to attend his outing, in a wheelchair, and wish him a "
happy birthday
".
Major Wooten, called "
Pop Pop
" by his family, thanked the nursing staff before returning home.
The centennial served as a private for the United States Army during World War II.
As were three of his brothers, one of whom was killed while on duty.
Wooten was one of a group of veterans present in Normandy last year for the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
