The new coronavirus pneumonia epidemic in Hong Kong continues. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department announced today (4th) that a sample of a mixed shorthair cat received by the department tested positive for the new coronavirus.
The case involved a mixed shorthair cat living in Tung Chung. Because its owner was a close contact of the confirmed case of new pneumonia, the cat was sent to the Fisheries and Conservation Department for quarantine on Tuesday (1st).

A spokesperson for the Fisheries and Conservation Department said today that a sample of the mixed shorthair cat tested positive for the novel pneumonia virus.
However, the cat currently does not have any symptoms related to the new type of pneumonia. The Fisheries and Conservation Department emphasized that it will continue to conduct close monitoring and repeated tests for the cat.
The spokesperson reminded those who raise pets to maintain good hygiene, including washing hands before and after contact with animals or their food and objects, avoid kissing animals, and keep the home environment clean and hygienic.
People who are unwell should avoid contact with animals.
If you notice a change in your pet's health, you should seek the advice of a veterinarian as soon as possible.
The spokesperson also emphasized that there is currently no evidence that pets play a role in spreading the new type of pneumonia in humans.
In addition to maintaining good hygiene habits at all times, pet owners should not abandon their pets under any circumstances.
