"I lost my inner peace, the love that I had for my family, for my work. Little by little I was submerging myself in the dark mud of alcohol and drugs, living all the excesses possible and to be had", confesses the actor.

The mystery that for months has hovered around the whereabouts and health of actor Rafael Amaya was cleared up in the last few hours when People en Español magazine

He released an interview in which he opens his heart and talks about the addictions that, in addition to keeping him away from the public scene, also caused, he said, that he did harm to his loved ones.

The actor, star of the Telemundo production

El Señor de los Cielos

,

revealed to the publication that his friends were the ones who saved his life after plunging into a spiral of alcohol and other drugs that destroyed him after more than 20 artistic career.

"I lost my inner peace, the love I had for my family, for my work. Little by little I was submerging myself in the dark mud of alcohol and drugs, living all the excesses possible that have been and have been," he confessed to the magazine .

“I did not want any kind of commitment to myself or to any partner or to work or anything.

Drugs are death, ”he lamented.

Amaya acknowledged that the impact of fame on her life made her feel that if she wasn't in shape and showed off her luxuries, she was nobody.

“I got carried away by alcohol, banalities.

He was blinded by the dark cloak of drug addiction.

I am a human being, I am not a robot. ”, Admitted the actor, who thanks to his role as Aurelio Casillas in the Telemundo series achieved international fame, although towards the end of the recordings of the seventh season he disappeared without a trace.

The interpreter thus put an end to the rumors that circulated about his addictions and his health, after hiding for months without explaining to anyone.

At that time he dedicated himself to traveling through Europe and America because he wanted to be alone.

He wore a cap and a beard to hide his identity, he revealed.

"I was alone for a long time, hurting my loved ones, my friends, my colleagues and the public as well," he said.

Amaya hit rock bottom eight months ago and decided to ask a friend for help, the singer Roberto Tapia, who along with Fátima, the actor's sister, and his manager, Karem Guedimin, devised a plan to get him out of the tunnel where he had gotten into, according to the publication.

It was then that he decided to travel to Sinaloa, Mexico, and enter the Baja del Sol rehabilitation clinic of former Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez, run by Carlos Appel, Amaya's first cousin.

When he arrived at the rehabilitation center, he was still psychotic and believing himself the

Lord of the Skies

, but in a few months he achieved a remarkable evolution, according to information from People in Spanish.

“I didn't know that around me I had such beautiful people, there were people who loved me so much and appreciated me.

I was blind, I was blinded by the dark cloak of drug addiction and now I feel that the blindfold was removed and I am deeply grateful to all people and to God ”, the artist thanked.

Amaya, who is still in rehab, said she wanted to share her testimony to help those who are going through what she happened and to serve as an example for addicts to seek help but do not dare.

“I feel like I was reborn.

I have faith, I have love, hope, and plans, ”he said.

Among them, he added, is finding his better half.
